Without a doubt, there’s incredible benefit to hiring a wedding planner. Amongst other things, a wedding planner helps manage tasks, reduces stress, saves you money and helps you make informed decisions that are right for you and your wedding. Even with all of these benefits, most couples opt to not hire a traditional planner.
As a wedding planner, I know the value of my service better than anyone. Yet, while planning our wedding in 2014, I chose not to hire a planner. Yes, I thought to myself that I didn’t need a planner because I am a planner. But, I also made the decision based on cost. At the time I was specializing in traditional full service planning and, as I’ve said many times before, when I got married, I couldn’t afford me.
Looking back, there’s nothing I would change about our wedding other than hiring a planner. Like you, I had a job to do while planning our wedding. While planning weddings was and is literally my job, this meant that in addition to my own, I had the responsibility of managing tasks, negotiating contracts, doing vendor research, and organizing details for many others at the time. They required and deserved my full attention. With a busy work schedule and all the other things that life brought during that chapter, I wish we would have had someone like a virtual planner to rely on.
I was very capable of doing it all and the control freak in me would have never let someone else take the reigns, but there are certain benefits to hiring a virtual wedding planner over a traditional planner that would have made life so much easier. Plus, it may have helped me not stress eat so many Cheetos…
If you’re like I was thinking that a wedding planner was just not an option for you, here’s why hiring a virtual wedding planner might just be the perfect fit…
Behind the Scenes Work. So much of wedding planning is researching options, reaching out to confirm availability and pricing and reviewing the details. These are all things that don’t have to be done by you. Once you establish your needs, style and budget with a virtual planner they can handle each of these tasks presenting you with a curated list of the best of the best for you and your wedding. From there you can meet with and book your top choice. This alone saves you countless hours.
Cost. There’s not doubt that cost is the number one reason that most couples choose not to hire a planner. When you’re working with an average size budget, logic tells you to focus the funds on the big things like photography, catering, venue, entertainment and bar. Investing a big chunk of your budget in something or someone that your guests won’t really see seems pointless. It’s like having to spend money on the things behind the wall during a renovation (plumbing, electrical, insulation, framing, et) instead of the finishes. You don’t want to do it, but it’s vital to the livability of the house. Since I work with couples virtually in a consulting capacity, you get to safely live in the house and decorate it the way you want at the same time – metaphorically speaking of course.
Convenience. When you’re as busy as you are, trekking out in the middle of your day to handle wedding tasks is the last thing you have time for. Life would be so much easier if you could plan your wedding on your own schedule. With a virtual wedding planner you can. Your virtual planner is there to help via text, email, phone and video conference. Plus with custom online planning tools and curated weekly tasks, you can plan from anywhere at anytime meaning you can juggle your thriving career and wedding planning at the same time.
Locality doesn’t matter. In today’s day and age, the location of your planner has zero impact on their ability to help you plan your best day ever. They don’t have to be local to manage tasks, help you make informed decisions or save you money. All that matters is experience and that you trust their expertise.
Customized experience. With traditional wedding planning services, you either get the full service experience or wedding management where a coordinator steps in with 4-6 weeks remaining. This means you either get more help than you may need or not enough help. With a virtual planner, you can get the exactly level of assistance you need with an experience customized to you and your wedding.
