Today I’m excited to unveil a new series on the blog. We’ve been sharing real weddings for a while now but I was ready to bring you more inspiration and design advice so you can create the perfect day for you.
For this first post I drew inspiration from one of my favorite shows, Friends. Over the last couple of days, I saw not one but two requests for design help for a Friends inspired wedding. As a long time fan of the show, my head instantly started filling with ideas – coffee bars, abstract gold picture frames, New York City details and more. But, I kept always going back to one specific, iconic moment from the show, the quote “See! He’s her lobster!”.
This episode was pivotal in Ross and Rachel’s relationship and the quote became a multi generational stronghold. What better line to inspire a wedding? Plus, with summer quickly approaching, it felt perfect for the first of many inspiration boards to come.
If you love the idea of planning a Friends inspired wedding, or even if just the classic New England nautical feel is right up your alley, here’s how to pull off a lobster inspired wedding.
Colors: Stick to summer classics like shades of blue, white and sand tones. While pops of red can perfectly weave their way into this theme, the bold color is not for everyone. Feel free to include it if it appeals to you or leave it out if it doesn’t.
Design Details: You’ll obviously want to include lobster details wherever possible. Since coastal New England decor has an aged patina feel to it, I suggest utilizing watercolor for not only the lobster detail but also any stationery and paper goods you’ll need throughout the wedding. Other items you might want to include would be lobster traps, worn buoys, and aged rope.
Cocktails + Dinner: While a lobster bake would be ideal, it might not be in the budget. Keep the food light and summery with an emphasis on fresh and local ingredients. Encourage food and drink pairings and even consider doing a Rosé bar in honor of the summer months if your budget permits.
What do you think of this first inspiration board? Would you design a wedding around your favorite TV show?
